I thought The Monkey's Paw was by far the best written of the 2 plays and I agree that Geoff was excellent in his role. However I do feel that Phoenix missed a trick with the staging of this piece - better use of lighting and sound could have created an atmosphere filled with foreboding and dread which is what the play needed in my opinion. In complete contrast Act 2 was a piece of throwaway fluff from a writing point of view - typical amdram fare - but it was superbly played by all involved and consequently for me was the more entertaining of the 2.
